Viking ESU – Terms and Conditions

1. Joining the Unit

“I” refers to Parent/Carer
“Explorer” refers to your child/young person in your care

I agree to keep Viking Explorer Scout Unit informed of any changes to the Explorers personal details that may occur after the initial sign up form has been completed and agree to check the details recorded on Online Scout Manager (OSM) periodically to ensure accuracy of the data on file.

I allow photographs to be taken of the Explorer when they are taking part in Scouting activities, I understand that these photos may be used to promote the Unit to the public. I understand that if I prefer the Explorer to remain out of photos I am to make leaders aware.

I allow the Explorer to take part in weekly activities that may take place away from the hall (such as beach walks, games in the park, hikes and talks) without a specific permission form.

If it becomes necessary for the Explorer to receive medical treatment and I cannot be contacted to authorise this, I hereby give my general consent to any necessary medical treatment and authorise the Leader in charge to sign any document required by the hospital authorities. The medical profession takes the view that the parent’s/carer’s consent to medical treatment cannot be delegated. This view is explicit in The Children’s Act 1989. Thus, medical consent forms have no legal status and a doctor or nurse insisting on the consent of a parent/carer to a particular treatment has the right to do so. For this reason we do not recommend that Leaders insist on parents/carers agreeing to the statement above. However, it can be a comfort to medical staff to have general consent in advance from parents/carers or to have a Leader on hand able to sign forms required by medical authorities.

2. Data Protection

By submitting personal data to Viking ESU, I agree to the Scout Association during and beyond my child’s involvement with the organisation:

a) Retaining personal data to facilitate any present or potential future involvement with Scouting;

b) Retaining personal data regarding religion, special needs/disabilities, ethnicity, medical information and/or commission of offences or alleged offences

c) Allowing access to personal data to appropriate individuals within the hierarchy of Scouting.

3. Payments

I understand that from time to time, additional payments may be required for my child to take part in the range of activities and events that Viking ESU offers to its Explorers.

Any payments categorised as deposits taken in advance of a particular event or activity will be considered non-refundable.

Refunds for activities and events will only be given if the monies collected to date have not been spent and/or committed towards a particular activity or event.

Refunds for clothing and merchandise will only be given if items are returned to the unit in an as new condition.
